We are delighted to announce that our Artistic Director, Ruth Gould, has been appointed as one of five new Patrons to Graeae Theatre Company.
Graeae is a force for change in world-class theatre. Since its inception nearly 40 years ago in 1980, it continues to break down barriers, challenging preconceptions and boldly placing D/deaf and disabled artists centre stage.
In recent years Graeae has presented work at the National Theatre (The Solid Life of Sugar Water and Courage Everywhere: And Others), published their first biographical book (Reasons to be Graeae), trained D/deaf and disabled writers and theatre makers with its professional development programmes, and reached over 100,000 people across the UK and internationally.
Graeae gives artists opportunities to grow, gain new experiences and develop professionally. It leads the way in pioneering, trail-blazing theatre and runs an extensive programme of creative learning opportunities, training and developing the next generation of D/deaf and disabled artists.
Ruth, Jack Thorne, Jemima Dury, Hilary Carty and Ola Animashawun join Graeae’s existing patrons: Sir Peter Blake, Dame Harriet Walter, Jenny Agutter OBE, Richard Wilson OBE, Sadie Frost, Mat Fraser and Nabil Shaban.
Ruth says, “Graeae continues to lead the way internationally for theatre created by the lived experience of disability. I am delighted and honoured to become a patron.”
