Our friends over at Manchester Histories will be celebrating Alf’s Act in September.
On Friday 4 and Saturday 5 September you can take part in DigiFest2020 from your own home. This is an online festival put together to mark the 50th anniversary of the Chronically Sick and Disabled Persons Act. This was a landmark piece of legislation pioneered by former Manchester MP and activist, Lord Alf Morris.
Manchester Histories says:
“From a pop-up TV studio, DigiFest 2020 will broadcast short films, discussions, speeches, digital art, music, comedy, song and more. The work is all collaboratively created with organisations and people from the disabled community, exploring the legacy of Alf's Act, celebrating talent and creativity, and prompting conversations and discussion.”
Hosting the event is Jackie Hagan, who is passionate about class, sexuality, disability and accessibility. She recently starred in and wrote an episode of Crip Tales for BBC Four and BBC America and has been nominated for a National Diversity Award and a Woman of the World Award for effecting lasting social change.
There will be events to entertain and educate, with everything being streamed online, inlcuding What Is Your Place in History? from Result CIC who have worked with DaDaFest on our Artist Development programme.
