DaDaFest International 2020 is now less than 1 month away, and we’ve got some exciting new additions to the programme to share with you!
Alongside our commissions and work by our featured artists, you’ll be seeing a range of discussions exploring current topics within disability arts, and reflecting on the programme itself. Here’s some of what you’ve got to look forward to, with further guests still to be announced:
Artist Q&As
As well as experiencing their artworks, you will have the opportunity to hear more from artists on the programme through livestreamed Q&As. Deaf Explorer, Alexandrina Hemsley and Aidan Moesby will each be accompanying their DaDaFest premieres with online talks where you’ll be able to get the inside story on their process.
Edward Rushton Lecture: ‘The Language of Disability’
Since 2014 we have delivered an annual lecture to keep alive the passion and fire demonstrated by Edward Rushton [b.1766 d.1814], a poet, activist, abolitionist and disabled man. It will be online this year, but promises to be as fascinating as ever: Keynote speaker, Deborah Williams, will be giving a performance lecture on the subject ‘The Language of Disability’ before joining a discussion with a panel of invited guests including Ono Dafedjaiye and more to be confirmed.
A Little Commitment Podcast: DaDaFest International 2020 - Translating Experiences
Gareth Berliner and Kiruna Stammel (aka A Little Commitment) will be bringing you a podcast series in which they’ll interview disability arts creatives and thinkers on a number of issues, all touching on our 2020 festival theme, Translations. Their guests will include blogger and disability activist, Emma Round, disabled dancer/choreographer, Dan Daw, and their friends from inclusive theatre company, Red Earth.
Four episodes will be released over the course of the festival so be sure to tune in for each one.
Future Possibilities: Artist Panel with Simon Startin
Disabled theatre maker and activist, Simon Startin, will chair a panel focussing on themes and ideas appearing in the work of invited guests.
Disability Arts Online Panel Discussion
A panel with influential disability arts platform and organisation, Disability Arts Online. Stay tuned for updates on the panellists!
