Today, 24 May 2021, we would like to share DaDaFest’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion statement from joint Artistic Director & CEO, Nickie Miles-Wildin and Grace Ng.
Watch it here with BSL and audiodescription or read the transcript below:
Over a year ago, the cry for racial justice was amplified. Many came together to demand change following the murder of George Floyd.
May 25th marks the first anniversary of his death and a year on, the words Black Lives Matter have echoed globally - providing the impetus and opportunity for DaDaFest to commit to changing both institutional and structural inequalities in the arts.
As a national disabled-led arts organisation we acknowledge that diversity needs to be intersectional and recognise that we have an ongoing part to play in addressing racism, and working on inequalities within the organisation and the wider arts sector. We are committed to making change in the sector and will continue to listen, reflect and respond to artists, participants, audiences, young people and staff who experience racism and marginalisation.
We want to proactively promote equality, diversity and inclusion across the organisation and in our work that is presented nationally and internationally. In the coming months, we will work to set out measureable targets to ensure DaDaFest’s workforce, leadership and governance, its communities of artists, participants, young people, audiences, and artistic programme are representative of the communities we work with in Liverpool and contemporary Britain.
As we embark on this journey we will keep you updated through our website sharing our learnings, actions and resources.
Together we can and will make a change.
