Since 2021, Arts Council England's Digital Culture Network has been celebrating digital innovation through their Digital Culture Awards. The 2023 longlist has now been announced and we're delighted that our DaDa Holograms R&D is one of the contenders!
Funded by the Space, DaDa Holograms examined use cases for Augmented Reality access provisions and is among those longlisted for the 'Digital Transformation' award. This category in particular exists to recognise organisations integrating digital technology in order to grow efficiencies and digital skills. Watch the video below to experience outcomes of the R&D for yourself and find a write-up about it on our blog here.
In further exciting news for the DaDa team, Dr. Joe Strickland, DaDa Executive Producer and lead for the Holograms R&D, is up for the 'Digital Ambassador' award in an individual capacity. Joe says
“It’s so wonderful for DaDa to be nominated for the Digital Culture Awards, and to be amongst such great company no less! With our background in live performance and exhibitions, working in the digital culture sphere can sometimes feel lonely or isolating, but seeing all the innovative and vital work going on around the country is really inspiring. I’m so glad our Hologram R&D project has been recognised and looking forward to how we can continue to build on it in the future to deliver more novel and creatively useful ways for artists and audiences to create and access cultural events”
Best of luck to all those longlisted, including artists fresh from our 2022 festival line-up; Rachel Parry and Chronic Insanity. We’re in good company also when it comes to local representation; FACT Liverpool are nominated for their TikTok strategy. What’s more the 'Digital Inclusion' category includes an amazing project we've seen flourish right outside our premises at the Bluecoat: 'The Invisible Blue Island', a collaboration with disabled artists from Blue Room, brings to life Augmented Reality installations via QR codes hidden round the Bluecoat gardens.
Given our continued commitment to digital and hybrid programming as an access provision at DaDa events, it’s an especially exciting longlist to explore and be a part of.
