Unity Theatre, Action Transport Theatre and DaDaFest are working together to create a high quality seasonal show based on the story of Beauty and the Beast for family audiences in December 2018.
The show follows last year’s ‘The Jungle Book’ and critically acclaimed, BSL integrated ‘Little Red and the Big Bad Wolf’ which had a run at Z-arts, Manchester and the Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal before touring nationally.
As part of our commitment to working with artists who are under-represented in mainstream theatre, we are holding 2 creative sessions for D/deaf and Disabled performers with the aim of sharing practice and supporting skills development in relation to making work for children and family audiences.
We would like to invite D/deaf and Disabled performers with some experience of making and performing in professional theatre contexts to a workshop session on either;
21st May 2-5pm or 8th June 10-1pm
The sessions will be led by Action Transport Theatre, supported by DaDaFest and will explore the story of Beauty and the Beast looking at how notions of ‘disability’ connects with perceptions of beauty and ugliness. We will also explore ways in which the annual co production can broaden its accessibility for all audiences.
The qualities of the winter show which have established Unity/ATT’s unique offer include a highly visual language, minimal text, the prominence of music and song, the work being child centred but for audiences of all ages, a political challenge and ensemble storytelling.
The workshop sessions will be designed to share practice around making the annual family show and to invite interest in future casting opportunities which will take place in August.
Workshops will aim to be accessible and inclusive, taking into account each individual’s access and support needs. BSL interpretation will be provided for in both workshops.
Places are limited, to book a place, find out more information or discuss access needs please email or call Jess Egan-Simon Project Manager at jess@actiontransporttheatre.org or call ATT on 01513572120.
