#Livemusicforschools
Schools across the UK are invited to experience the excitement of DaDaFest Scratch by tuning into the free Connect:Resound live broadcast.
The DaDaFest Ensemble’s performance for schools will be live-streamed from Music Room, Liverpool Philharmonic on 11 July from 2 – 3pm. Their set will be the culmination of a ten-week development project and will include the premiere of a new composition, called ‘Music for Friends’ created by DaDaFest Ensemble musicians and the lead composers Ben Lunn and Carmel Smickersgill.
There will also be opportunities for the online audience to join in – no instruments required!
To tune in, schools simply go to http://connectresound.live and take part via their classroom whiteboards.
DaDaFest Scratch at Liverpool Philharmonic is the first of a series of events hosted by the disability and D/deaf arts organisation DaDaFest. These events are an opportunity for developing artists who identify as disabled or D/deaf to showcase their work. Crucially, it’s also a chance for feedback from an audience, using this experience to inform and influence future practice.
Connect: Resound is a project run by youth music charity NYMAZ which uses technology to create more music education and enrichment opportunities for children and young people. This is the first time they have worked with DaDaFest which is an innovative disability and D/deaf arts organisation based in Liverpool.
Sarah McWatt, Director of NYMAZ, says: “We believe that all young people should have the opportunity to make and experience music, whatever their location or circumstances. Our live broadcasts are free of charge to enable schools across the country to introduce students to the joy of live music, without having to leave the classroom. We can’t wait to showcase DaDaFest Ensemble and we hope that the developing artists will inspire the online audience to make music themselves. We hope you can join us!”
Richard Nutter, Executive Director of DaDaFest, continues: “We are delighted to be working with NYMAZ to broadcast DaDaFest Scratch into classrooms across the UK. DaDaFest Scratch events are a key moment in our calendar where the developing artists we work with have an opportunity to showcase their exceptional talents. This performance will be no exception and we are thrilled to be streaming it live from the prestigious Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.”
There is a free learning pack aimed at Key Stages 2, 3, and 4 available for teachers to download from www.connectresound.live/resources

About Connect: Resound/ www.connectresound.org.uk
Connect: Resound is a pioneering digital music education project, led by youth music charity NYMAZ, to enable more children and young people to receive music-making and enrichment opportunities using online technologies. Initially focused on using technology to overcome the barriers to music education presented by rural isolation - namely, travel times and cost - Connect: Resound is now exploring how its model of music education can respond to other challenges to children’s music-making. These range from mental health issues to excluded children.
The project is led by youth music development charity, NYMAZ (www.nymaz.org.uk) and delivered in partnership with technical lead UCan Play (www.ucanplay.org.uk), Music Education Hubs, Music Organisations, orchestras and venues, as well as primary, secondary and special schools across England. Connect: Resound is currently funded by Paul Hamlyn Foundation Education and Learning Through the Arts Fund and Music for All.
