Wuld you like the opportunity to perform* in front of a large audience at a prestigious theatre and music venue? Are you aged between 12 to 30 and would describe yourself as a disabled, or deaf person, or do you live with a long-term medical condition?
We are looking for individuals or groups (group maximum of 15 people) to perform at this year’s Young DaDaFest events on Thursday 13 July (performance focused) or Friday 14 July (music focused).
Our aim is develop and nurture young disabled artists by giving them a platform to perform in front of a large audience.
The Young DaDaFest 2017 theme is Outside the Box*; our Young Leaders are offering nine commissions on this theme**.
Young DaDaFest is planned and organised by the DaDaFest Young Leaders Group, and they, plus the DaDaFest Artistic team will choose the acts.

* Outside the Box: People are put into categories which makes them feel judged and limited. How do we break outside the box?

Young DaDaFest open commissions
Each Young DaDaFest 2017 act must have a box in their performance; the box has to appear in a central position at the start and end of the performance but can move during the performance. (It can be any type, size, and shape of box)
Young DaDaFest Perform: Thursday 13 July 2017 – Everyman Theatre – 6:30pm to 8:30pm
We will have eight performances of up to ten minutes each, four before and four after the interval; we are looking for six acts to respond to the following themes:
- Movement or Dance piece exploring issues around balance and/or lack of balance (Open Commission)
- Acting piece, which explores a musical class talking about Beethoven and what happens next (Open Commission)
- Spoken Word piece which could be poetry, rap or a story that explores the theme “Being put in the box” (Open Commission)
Interval
- A group spoken word/chorus piece that explores different generational reactions (Open Commission)
- Acting piece, which covers a protest rally with two competing sides (Open Commission)
- Movement or Dance piece, which starts with a Beethoven inspired music, which looks at the quote “we have far more in common than divides us” (Open Commission)
Young DaDaFest Music
Friday 14 July – Music Room, Liverpool Philharmonic – 6:30pm to 8:30pm
We will have five performances, three before the interval and two after the interval; we are looking for three acts to respond to the following themes:
- Exploring the main theme and balance (Open Commission) – up to 10 minutes
- Exploring the main theme and Beethoven (Open Commission) – up to 10 minutes
Interval
- Exploring the main theme and different generations (Open Commission) – up to 20 minutes
