Cathy Mager is a deaf and Bristol basedartist and curator specialising in immersive andmonumental art installations in unusual spaces.  

Cathy is founder and director of Spectroscope,an arts collective thathas pioneeredsign language projection mapping for the BBC, BristolLight Festival, Science Gallery LondonandDuolunMuseum of Modern Art, Shanghai. 

Previously she has directed public realm artworks and exhibitions forBristol Beacon,ForestryEngland, Southbank Centre,Arts on the Underground and Historic Royal Palaces. 

Hand Ships Sailby Cathy Mager will be shown at TheCunard Buildings in Liverpool as part of DDFI40. 

Hand Ships Sailis a poetic conversation in British Sign Language (BSL)the vital, visual andversatile language of British deaf communities.Two deaf womenshare their dreams for thefuture as they look out over the night sky. Intriguing and sensual, theprojection artworkbegins withgiant hands resembling ships at sea, rocked by waves. The sailing handsrepresent the lifelong voyage all deaf people must take, navigating discrimination in thehearing world.
