Married for more than 25 years, Amadou and Mariam met in the orchestra of “The Institute for the Young Blind” in Bamako.
Since then, their magical fusion of pop, blues and Malian music has won them fans and stellar collaborators around the world. In recent years, Amadou and Mariam have toured with Coldplay and U2 and jammed with musical heroes David Gilmour and Johnny Marr.
They’ve performed at a Nobel Peace Prize concert in honour of Barack Obama, and played at the opening ceremonies of the last two FIFA world cups. Manu Chao and Damon Albarn have lent their production skills to their records and they have worked with some of the most innovative names in contemporary rock music via Albarn’s ‘Africa Express’ and other cross-cultural projects, such as ‘L’Afrik C’est Chic’.

Support Acts Announced!
Alongside Amadou and Mariam, we’re pleased to welcome a number of support acts to perform at the show.
Anwar Ali & Dave Owen: The duo, who’ve been performing for the past four years, will perform songs influenced by a variety of styles; including traditional Swahili wedding songs and Norwegian Folk, Blending Dave’s acoustic guitar and Anwar’s Oud, they produce life-affirming music that is full of passion.
The “Evolve” group from our Young DaDa Ensemble will also be performing. Young DaDa Ensemble is a project delivered alongside Drake Music, Live Music Now and Resonate Music Hub, with support from Youth Music that provides accessible music based activities for young disabled people across Merseyside. Two groups work with professional artists to develop musical skills and create original songs that culminate in live performances.
The event will also feature Radio Exotica, a group of two DJs with a particular interest in exploring and showcasing music from around the world. In 2016, the duo have performed at Glastonbury, Africa Oyé, Liverpool Biennial, Liverpool Arabic Arts Festival and much more. Delving deep into their record boxes to unearth hidden gems from distant lands, Radio Exotica will take you on a musical journey from the streets of Soweto to the sands of Sudan, when they support Amadou and Mariam.
