Exhibition open every day from 1 - 30 November. Come on a Thursday or Friday to visit the Multi-Sensory Station and meet members of People First Merseyside.

The Advocacy Story is an accessible exhibition designed, curated and researched by members of People First Merseyside, a self-advocacy organisation run by and for people with learning disabilities.

People First Merseyside has been supporting people with learning disabilities to speak up about issues that affect their lives for 30 years, and this exhibition is part of a Heritage Lottery funded project to celebrate this milestone.

Thirty years ago most people with learning disabilities lived in large, impersonal and occasionally abusive institutions where their rights were ignored. Self advocacy organisations like People First Merseyside were one of the driving forces for moving people out of institutions and into their own homes in the community.

The Advocacy Story is a deeply personal reflection on the work People First Merseyside has done to improve the lives of people with learning disabilities, as told by the people who know this history best.

The exhibition is written in ‘easy read’ in order to be accessible to those with learning disabilities. On Thursdays and Fridays there will be a Multi-Sensory Station and members of People First Merseyside will be available as Exhibition Guides. Also featured are a series of animated films created in collaboration with Blue Room, Bluecoat's inclusive arts project.

Exhibition open every day. Come on a Thursday or Friday to visit the Multi-Sensory Station and meet members of People First Merseyside.
